Avian Influenza

Investigations of Avian Respiratory and Nervous Syndrome carried out by the Official Veterinary Service.
(2022-2024)
Investigations carried out
Total investigations of suspected Avian Respiratory and Nervous Syndrome, whose target diseases are Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease. Suspicion can be ruled out based on the clinical-epidemiological evaluation carried out by the Official Veterinarian, ending the investigation without the need to collect samples for laboratory diagnosis.
Investigations with sample collection
In investigations classified by the Official Veterinarian as probable cases of Avian Respiratory and Nervous Syndrome, it is mandatory to collect samples for laboratory diagnosis. Faced with negative results for Avian Influenza and Newcastle Disease, the cases are ruled out and the investigation is closed.
Ongoing investigations
Investigations with sample collection still without conclusive laboratory results.
HPAI outbreaks
Investigations with a positive laboratory result for the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza, according to the case definition of Avian Influenza Technical Sheet. Each outbreak is an epidemiological unit in which at least one case of the disease has been confirmed.

*Outbreaks in wild birds are generally closed after definitive diagnosis and final disposal of carcasses (as shown in table "Detailed information on outbreaks"). However, in places with a concentration of wild birds, outbreaks can be kept open to include new cases by clinical and epidemiological criteria.
